Vulcanite Stem

Appreciated by many pipe smokers, ebonite is a relatively flexible material, making it softer under the tooth than acrylic. On the other hand, ebonite stems require regular maintenance, as they tarnish through oxidation with time and sunlight.  Ebonite also tends to mark easily, and tooth marks appear very quickly on these pipes.

Pipemakers frequently use this material for their pipes, as ebonite is easier to work than acrylic, and the mouthpieces offered in this material are generally thinner and therefore more comfortable.
